about us
Fly Fish Costa Maya was established by our head guide Will Robins. Will has a long CV and has had a variety of different roles within the sport fishing industry. Will started out fishing on the chalk streams and freestone spate rivers of his home county of Yorkshire in England. Following this he then quickly progressed to the large reservoirs and lakes, competing regularly in the competition circuit. This all culminated in Will becoming Team England fly fishing captain and winning a gold medal at international level.
Having achieved this, Will started guiding on his home rivers for trout and grayling. Alongside this, he also worked at the world-renowned Farlows of Pall Mall fly store in London, one of the oldest fly stores in the world at over 175 years old. Working at Farlows allowed Will to hone his skills and grow his knowledge and abilities. Will took a shine to the saltwater world and began to specialise in saltwater rigging, fly tying and destination angling. After working for 3 years at Farlows, will took on a few different roles, including running a fishing lodge and being a full-time guide. Having gained good experience in these roles, he decided to make a move to San Pedro, Belize to make his dream a reality.
Will spent 2 years in Belize, working as as a fishing guide, consultant and was involved in running a lodge and fly shop. It was a great experience and allowed him to progress and grow his understanding and knowledge of the area and its ecosystem. After 2 years, Will moved across to southern Quintana Roo to set up FFCM to offer world- class fishing packages to anglers wanting to chase the big 3 saltwater inshore species. We now provide wade fishing and skiff fishing packages, along with a purpose-built fishing lodge to be opened in late 2020.
Fly Fish Costa Maya is a sport fishing guiding and consulting business, based in southern Quintana Roo, Mexico. We run guided fly and light tackle wade trips and charters on both the flats, and inshore coastal waters of Sian Ka’an, Mahahual and Chetumal Bay. Our range covers over 550 square miles, encapsulating some of the best Bonefish, Permit, and Tarpon fishing on the planet.
We run trips year-round for the big 3 species, as well as targeting Barracuda, Snook, Triggerfish, and various reef species. We also offer Lobster diving in the summer months when the lobster season is open as an additional add on to your fishing charter.

Will has fished in 13 countries for anything from chalk stream Trout to Nile Perch and migrating Tarpon in the Florida Keys. Travelling to many different destinations has given Will a lot of experience into different styles of fishing, guiding techniques and interpersonal skills. He developed these skills down in the Florida Keys where he spent lots of time fishing with and learning from some of the best guides in the industry. This knowledge has been retained and developed further to give you a great time out on the water.
